Statement from State Representative Giovanni Capriglione
July 22, 2025

To my friends in House District 98—

After much reflection, prayer, and conversation with my family, I’ve decided that I will not seek re-election to the Texas House of Representatives.

This has not been an easy decision. Serving you in the Texas Legislature has been one of the great honors of my life. When I first ran, I had a clear purpose: go down to Austin, work hard, and fight for the principles and values that make Texas strong. Over the years, I’ve done exactly that. And while I’ve given this work everything I have, I also feel in my heart that I’ve accomplished what I set out to do. It’s time for a new chapter.

This isn’t goodbye—not yet. I will finish out this term with the same energy and dedication that I’ve always brought to the job. I remain committed to working closely with my constituents, continuing to attend local events, and ensuring that the laws we passed during the 89th Legislative Session are implemented faithfully and effectively.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been blessed with more support than I ever could have imagined. First and foremost, I owe everything to my wife, Elisa. She gave me the courage to run that very first time and has stood by me through every challenge and every long night. Her strength, grace, and unwavering belief in me made it all possible. I also want to thank our three daughters, who gave up so much time with their dad so that I could serve. I’ve always carried them in my heart on the House floor, fighting to ensure that they grow up in a state that protects their freedoms, their dreams, and their future.

I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to have worked with the most dedicated and brilliant staff in the Capitol. For over a decade, my Chief of Staff, Katy Aldredge, has been the soul of our office. Her wisdom, leadership, and devotion to our district have guided me more times than I can count. Katy has not just been my top advisor—she has been the reason our office consistently delivers results for the people of District 98. Alana Garrett, our Legislative Director, has been instrumental in making us one of the most productive offices in the Texas House, helping us pass more bills this session than any other. Spencer Ward brought energy and vision as Executive Director to the Innovation & Technology Caucus, playing a crucial role in advancing groundbreaking technology policy. Charlie McCaslin, our District Director, has been the backbone of constituent services, ensuring that every resident who called our office was treated with respect, attention, and care. And of course, I’m deeply grateful to Drew Lawson, who helped me communicate our message clearly and consistently, campaign after campaign.

Over the years, we’ve accomplished things that many once thought impossible. I’m proud to have authored the bill that created the Texas Bullion Depository, returning gold to state custody and making Texas the first state in the country to do so. I led the fight to pass the Human Life Protection Act, which ensured that Texas would stand for life in the post-Roe era. I worked to invest the Rainy Day Fund wisely, earning the state hundreds of millions more through prudent investments, protected taxpayer dollars, and brought a new level of transparency to government, including campaign finance, open records, and ethics reform.

However, I’ve always believed that government must not only preserve our freedoms—it must protect our future. That’s why I fought to strengthen our cybersecurity, shape smart and responsible AI regulation, and make Texas a national leader in emerging fields like blockchain and digital currency. With the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve and the passage of the Texas Data Privacy Act, we’ve ensured that Texans’ data, identity, and digital lives are safeguarded by laws as bold as our people.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Speaker Burrows for his friendship and support, and particularly for his confidence in my leadership. His encouragement has been instrumental in delivering meaningful results for our district. I am deeply appreciative of Governor Abbott for his unwavering support and his leadership in advancing our shared conservative priorities. I am also grateful to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for his support and commitment to the work we’ve done to strengthen Texas. Their efforts have made a significant difference in moving important initiatives forward for our state.

This has been a journey of faith, service, and relentless effort. I don’t yet know what the future holds, but I trust that God is still writing my story. For now, I look forward to spending more time with my family, returning to life back home, and continuing to serve in whatever way I can, just not in this same role.

To the voters, supporters, and residents of District 98: Thank You. 14 years ago, you placed your trust in me, election after election, and that trust has never been taken for granted. I will cherish these years forever. And I promise you this: I’m not coasting to the finish line. I’ll press forward at full speed—until the very last day you’ve asked me to serve.

With all my gratitude,
Giovanni Capriglione

Proud to be the subject of this KUT report detailing lawmakers turning their bills into laws. This session, I tied for the most enacted bills in the Texas House - significant measures that are now laws and I’m particularly proud to lead the newly created Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency, which played a key role in advancing so many great bills across the finish line.

Thank you to the constituents I serve in District 98! I’m grateful to my legislative colleagues for the trust vested in me and I could not do this without the work and efforts of my team; their work and effort made this possible.

I was saddened to learn today of the passing of Gary Fickes. He was one of the first “political big wigs” I met when I first got involved in politics, and I always appreciated his leadership and his friendship. Gary was wise, humble, and devoted to his family and our community. He served the people of Northeast Tarrant County with dedication - this is how I’ll remember him - a big smile, making our area better. We’ll miss him.
